Volunteer as a Animal Carer

First and foremost we are a hospital, we are not a sanctuary or a zoo. The animals in our care are sick/injured and they are our patients. You will be responsible for their care, giving them the correct food and medications and ensuring their cages/enclosures are cleaned to a high standard.

You must have an interest in animal welfare, be able to articulate yourself clearly, be responsible, observant, methodical, and have a good standard of literacy and communication skills. You must be able to work independently. Attention to detail is very important, our patients will be relying on you for everything they need.

We require everyone who volunteers with us to do the same day or evening shift every week for an absolute minimum of 6 months. We are unable to help with Duke of Edinburgh placements and we do not offer accommodation.

Please be aware that the hospital is in a remote location so you will need your own transportation.

Training will be provided, animal handling, bio security, and health & safety.

Supporting Volunteer Roles

Fundraising

We are looking for someone to join our fundraising team. This will involve going to events such as school fairs to run our stall, talking to the public about what we do to raise awareness etc. You will need to liaise with our fundraising coordinator. You must be confident, friendly and approachable, and fairly flexible with your time as we often have events to attend on weekends.

You will need your own transport to come into the hospital as we are in a very remote location, there is no public transport to us.

A reference will be needed for this position.

Admin / Data input

We are looking for someone to come into the hospital for at least one day per week, to input data onto our spreadsheets, email members of the public to thank them for their kind donations, and file away paperwork etc.

You will need your own transport to come into the hospital as we are in a very remote location, there is no public transport to us.

A reference will be needed for this position.

Maintenance

We are looking for someone handy to join our maintenance team, this team works hard to keep areas around the hospital up to a good standard, they work on projects such as putting up new enclosures – aviaries, fox pens, flight cages etc and also work on smaller projects throughout the hospital such as fixing cages, placing down slabs, mending gates/fences etc. You will need to be free to come in on a Wednesday every week to liaise with the rest of the maintenance team, and at least one more day per week to work.

You will need to be physically fit, practical, and you must have your own transport to come into the hospital as we are in a very remote location, there is no public transport to us.
